The seminar begins with a focus on industry relevant research then reviews hospitality and tourism hot topics, current issues and future challenges; it introduces various types of hotel and tourism industry data that are available for free of charge from the STR SHARE Center. Options to merge third party data such as survey results with performance data are explained and examples of industry relevant research from leading academics are demonstrated. There is a brainstorming session where delegates can discuss their personal training and research ideas and needs. Ways to increase industry relevance including utilisation of student projects to provide hands-on experience working with industry data and options to personalise student projects are explained. Various industry relevant training programmes are reviewed including the application exercises that help to apply training content. Attendees participate in several sample activities.

Management and Marketing of Visitor Attractions: The role of visitor attractions in tourism, the visitor attraction product, the visitor attraction market and the marketing concept of visitor attractions are examined and discussed using local and national examples.
Management of Visitor Attractions in Practice: The focus is on human capital management; organisational, cultural and legislative issues; ethical challenges; managing quality and change; and planning for the future using international examples.
